Wow, yes, I still had NoTitleFocus in my config (I created it on a Sun Solaris system almost 25 years ago and haven't touched most of the options since then :-)). When I revoved it, the problem was gone and now vivaldi/chromium also work as expected! Maybe there are some other options that need to be set in combination with NoTitleFocus so that couldn't reproduce it, but removing this one was enough for me to make things work :-) And it fixed a bunch of other little focus things (like the black cursor in an xterm getting an unfilled rectangle when warping between workspaces while the cursor stays in this xterm that is shown on all workspaces, and so on).
