I would say the subject P14 should not be used without qualified,
professional inspection involving removal of the forend woodwork. In my
early days as an apprentice in the RAF we had in the barrack rooms racks of
No4 rifles with a hole about 3/8

I have an "email friend" in USA who bought a P14 Enfield with "DP"
engraved on it in several places.
He has fired it, but I am concerned that the rifle may not be safe with
Drill Purpose designation.
You're right to be cautious, I'd say don't use it. Most DP

Generally with Bren Guns it was that the parts were no longer within the
correct tolerances. But best to check out safety with a qualified gunsmith.
Problem may well be either bore wear or, more worryingly headspace.
