I solved this by adding lines to 'cygwin.bat' that remove
'C:\cygwin\tmp\Xwin.log' and 'C:\cygwin\tmp\.X11-unix\*' before starting the
shell.

I just installed Cygwin and its X-windows on a WinXPPro box to be used by
multiple, individual users with different logins. I found user B couldn't
run 'xinit' after user A unless s/he deleted or changed permissions on
'/tmp/XWin.log', which was always created with permissions
error messages during installation if some dependencies
can't be satisfied?
I don't have any clear symptoms of the problem; I'm fishing around to debug
my broken portable installation.

I just (Friday-20050423) downloaded and installed a set of Cygwin files into
a freshly laundered Win2k PC. Installation went fine, but when I use 'xinit'
to start 'wmaker' from my '.xinitrc' I see:
1) normal-looking startup of X11, except for some missing fonts,
2) normal-looking screen

Context: I need to produce a cygwin fileset on CD that I can install on a
system without net access. I don't need a seamless installation from the
media, but I do need to select any of the packages I have planned; I've had
