I have installed cygwin about 8 times over a week. On the setup exe
page under the DEVEl project I only see examples for gcc. I never get a
chance to select gcc for installation and I never have gcc or c++ or g++
after an installation. What am I doing wrong. A constraint: I have to
install

The gcc binaries *are* available for cygwin. Rerun setup, get to the
package selection screen, click on Devel and you'll see gcc.

That would indicate that you didn't actually install gcc. Go back to
the cygwin web page

I just installed cygwin on Win2KPro, using the standard
setup.exe off cygwin web site with the install everything
(or so I thought) option. My trusty GNU C compiler
is nowhere in sight. What totally obvious thing am I missing?
