There was a bug in Version 1.11.1 of CVS (Read only access was broken),
which has been solved in April 2001.
Cygwin includes only the buggy version.
I suggest to upgrade Version 1.11.1p1.
Or is there a work-around?

Thanks for the info. I was aware that using CVS_RSH + ssh, you can get

OK. Moving on from a shoot-from-the-hip suggestion, I checked out the CVS
manual (and old one, admittedly--version 1.9).
According to section 4.2.2, pg. 16, files in the working copy of the
repository have permissions "typical for newly created files, except that

Steve,
There's nothing wrong with wanting this outcome, but modifying the CVS
command itself is almost certainly not the way to get it.
Much better would be to wrap CVS in a script that would perform the
necessary actions required to achieve this effect. As a shell script, this

That brings me back to the more limited, but vastly simpler idea of adding
a feature to cvs that allows producing a script of chmod commands during
check-out that reflects the proper file permissions. I might even attempt

I have a system with a wireless NIC that has not Linux support, so I want
to use cvs from Cygwin on Windows 98 to get files to the FAT volume, then
reboot to Linux and copy the files. I only need to deal with check-out,
not check-in It would be nice if there were some way to keep track of
CVS does tend to be a bit intimidating. I have created some bash functions
and a couple Perl scripts that help me manage updating and making the Cygwin
source tree. I don't think they are as flexible as the more experienced
users would need, but they have made it easier for me to keep up
Mark, thanks very much, it works fine, I think that patch needs to get
into the main cygwin tree asap, as you have also fixed all my problems
with cvs under cygwin on WinME. Thanks again. There are a lot of posts
for the past few versions of Cygwin regarding the CVS problem, hence the

I find that the attached script fails on Windows 98 and Windows 200 when
running Cygwin 1.3.2 with CVS 1.11. A core dump occurs in the "strace cvs

Hello,
I was just wondering: have anybody managed to run cvs in pserver mode ?
(My configuration is: cvs: 1.11.0-1, inetutils: 1.3.2-14, cygwin
1.3.2-1)
On the server side seems all ok.
I was able to perform cvs login operation, but all attempts to do
checkouts fail:
