Updated: gcc-11.4.0-1

2023-06-05 Thread Achim Gratz

The native Gcc compilers have been updated to the latest upstream
release version of the gcc-11 branch:

 gcc-11.4.0-1-src
 gcc-ada-11.4.0-1
 gcc-core-11.4.0-1
 gcc-debuginfo-11.4.0-1
 gcc-fortran-11.4.0-1
 gcc-g++-11.4.0-1
 gcc-gdc-11.4.0-1
 gcc-objc++-11.4.0-1
 gcc-objc-11.4.0-1
 libatomic1-11.4.0-1
 libgcc1-11.4.0-1
 libgccjit0-11.4.0-1
 libgfortran5-11.4.0-1
 libgnat11-11.4.0-1
 libgomp1-11.4.0-1
 libobjc4-11.4.0-1
 libquadmath0-11.4.0-1
 libstdc++6-11.4.0-1

This release includes libgccjit as a separate package for the native
toolchain. Since Cygwin does not yet enable ASLR by default, any
nontrivial dynamic objects that are created in this way will likely need
to get rebased before they can be used. It is unlikely that build
systems recognize the need for doing that at the moment.

For this build, the Ada compiler has been re-enabled (bootstrapped via
the 11.3.1+20230310 test version) and the D compiler has been added to
the build. No testing beyond the compiler testsuite has been done for
both languages and D does still not have the runtime library on Cygwin.

Updated: gnuplot-5.4.7-1

2023-05-22 Thread Achim Gratz

Gnuplot version 5.4.7 is now available on Cygwin. The upstream release
notes for this bugfix / minor feature enhancement release are available
at:

http://www.gnuplot.info/ReleaseNotes_5_4_7.html

Cygwin Notes

The tutorial has been removed from the 5.4 branch of gnuplot, so it is
no longer available in the package.

The ggi terminal has been dropped from the build. I am considering
dropping both the gpic and the mif terminal in a further update as well.

The wxt terminal is now available.

The qt terminal still doesn't work on Cygwin due to either a Cygwin or
Qt5 bug that is still under investigation. If you want to help, please
install the gnuplot-qt5 package and try to debug it.

The packaging has been changed with version 5.4 to allow more
fine-grained control over dependencies. Depending on which packages you
install running plain "gnuplot" will dispatch different executables via
the alternatives system.

The gnuplot-base package provides no GUI terminal at all and will
replace the gnuplot package unless you chose to install one of the other
feature packages, this variant is always directly available as
gnuplot-base. This variant is most useful for scripted gnuplot
invocations and for using it interactively in MinTTY with the sixelgd
terminal.

The gnuplot-X11 package resembles the previous gnuplot package most
closely, the executable for this variant is gnuplot-X11 and depends on a
relatively small number of X11 libraries.

The gnuplot-wx package adds the wxt terminal and retains the X11
terminal. The executable for this variant is gnuplot-wx and it depends
on an extensive list of GNOME libraries.

The gnuplot-qt package provides the qt terminal and retains the X11
terminal. The executable for this variant is gnuplot-qt5 and of course
depends on Qt5 libraries. Please note that while gnuplot-qt5 does
build, the qt terminal does not actually work yet, see above.

Perl 5.36.1-1 is now available on Cygwin, replacing perl-5.32.1. Most
Perl distributions and dependent packages have been either re-released
or updated in conjunction with this update. The following packages have
been released for Cygwin:

If setup refuses to update to the new Perl version or suggests to delete
other packages, then you likely have a package installed that depends on
the previous version and has not yet been re-released or updated. You
can either wait for that update to happen or alternatively uninstall
that package to allow the update of Perl to the newer version to
proceed.

Updated: zstd-1.5.5-1 and development headers / libraries

2023-04-12 Thread Achim Gratz

This release updates Zstandard to the latest upstream version, which is
a maintenance release with bugfixes and minor performance improvements.

Zstandard, or zstd as short version, is a fast lossless compression
algorithm, targeting real-time compression scenarios at zlib-level and
better compression ratios.

http://www.zstd.net/

Besides a standalone compression tool, development headers and a library
with comprehensive API are available both for Cygwin native applications
and cross-compilation toolchains in the following sub-packages:

libzstd-devel-1.5.5-1
libzstd1-1.5.5-1
mingw64-i686-zstd-1.5.5-1
mingw64-x86_64-zstd-1.5.5-1

Notes
-

This version is compiled with support for GZip, LZ4 and Xz compression
and all libraries are built with MT capability. Support for legacy
formats from ZStandard versions before 1.0 has been removed.

Test: gcc-11.3.1+20230310-0.1

2023-03-11 Thread Achim Gratz

The native Gcc compilers have been updated to the latest upstream
snapshot version of the gcc-11 branch:

 gcc-11.3.1+20230310

This release includes libgccjit as a separate package for the native
toolchain. Since Cygwin does not yet enable ASLR by default, any
nontrivial dynamic objects that are created in this way will likely need
to get rebased before they can be used. It is unlikely that build
systems recognize the need for doing that at the moment.

For this build, the Ada compiler has been re-enabled (bootstrapped via
the 7.4.0 version of the Cygwin packages and the 11.3.1+20230303
snapshot) and the D compiler has been added to the build. No testing
beyond the compiler testsuite has been done for both languages.

This release updates to the latest upstream security patch release and
continues to use the Fedora patches from an earlier release (Fedora has
already switched to openssl 3.x).

Re-Release: ca-certificates-2022.2.60-3

2023-02-12 Thread Achim Gratz

The following packages have been uploaded to the Cygwin distribution:

 ca-certificates-2022.2.60-1
 ca-certificates-letsencrypt-2022.2.60-1

This re-release fixes an upstream and a packaging bug that arises
because p11kit makes certain directories unwritable after population.
This becomes noticeable only when the user invoking those scripts is not
an administrator (or more specifically on Windows doesn't have
SeBackupPrivilege and SeRestorePrivilege). Please note that the fix
temporarily needs to make the directory writable, which will again fail
if the user attempting to do that has insufficient rights for this
operation.

Mozilla's CA root certificates for use with OpenSSL, NSS, GnuTLS, and
other software that handles certificate verification.

This is an update to the latest upstream release.

This update contains the ca-certificates-letsencrypt package, whose
installation will make the ISRG R3 intermediate CA a trust anchor and
removes trust for the already expired DST X3 root CA (this should
strictly not be necessary, but works around bugs present in some
libraries in how alternate chains are constructed and verified). This
will allow to successfully verify certificates using the Letsencrypt
legacy cert chain in certain applications. Install this package when
you currently have trouble accessing sites (due to validation
complaining about an expired certificate) that had no problems until
about September 30 or October 1 2021 depending on your timezone.

The release numbering scheme has been aligned with Fedora.

Updated: {,mingw64-{i686,x86_64}-}binutils-2.40-1

2023-02-12 Thread Achim Gratz

The binutils packages for Cygwin and MingW64 cross-compilation
toolchains have been updated to the upstream feature release 2.40, with
additional patches applied for Cygwin.

 binutils-2.40-1
 mingw64-i686-binutils-2.40-1
 mingw64-x86_64-binutils-2.40-1

The GNU Binutils are a collection of binary tools. Most of these
programs use BFD, the Binary File Descriptor library, to do low-level
manipulation. Many of them also use the opcodes library to assemble and
disassemble machine instructions.

Note

This release still allows one to apparently use weak symbols (depending
on exactly how you test for them), which however don't actually work on
Windows nor Cygwin as they are unsupported by the loader. These symbols
should always resolve as NULL, but since release 2.37 they sometimes
don't.

https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=28719

After further changes and bugfixes in this area a workaround that was
identified earlier no longer has the desired effect and investigation
into the real root cause is still ongoing.

This change in behaviour triggered a latent bug in gnulib's detection of
weak symbols for pthreads that leads to non-debuggable crashes of
applications erroneously built with weak symbols. Either update gnulib
(or at least threadlib.m4) or add

export gl_cv_have_weak=no

to the cygport (or set it as an environment variable during configure).

Updated: gnuplot-5.4.6-1

2023-02-12 Thread Achim Gratz

Gnuplot version 5.4.6 is now available on Cygwin. The upstream release
notes for this bugfix / minor feature enhancement release are available
at:

http://www.gnuplot.info/ReleaseNotes_5_4_6.html

Updated: openldap-2.6.4-1

2023-02-11 Thread Achim Gratz

The openldap package in Cygwin has been updated to the latest upstream
version 2.6.4.

https://www.openldap.org/software/release/changes.html

Notes
=

Upstream has removed the two database backends that worked at least
partially on Cygwin. Since they don't support Cygwin (and indeed ponder
to drop the Win32 port at some point), the openldap-server package has
been removed.

Upstream has changed the SONAME versioning scheme after 17 years to
align with the fact that actually all 2.x releases were ABI compatible
and not changing ABI with each release. Packages for libopenldap2_4_2
and libopenldap2_5_0 are thus provided to replace the previously
separate libraries for the older release versions (so older packages are
automatically using the newer library). Packages depending on these
need not be recompiled, but package maintainers should check that any
rebuilt packages are using the new libopenldap2 package as a dependency.

Updated: zstd-1.5.4-1 and development headers / libraries

2023-02-11 Thread Achim Gratz

This release updates Zstandard to the latest upstream version, which is
a maintenance release with minor performance improvements and bugfixes.

Zstandard, or zstd as short version, is a fast lossless compression
algorithm, targeting real-time compression scenarios at zlib-level and
better compression ratios.

http://www.zstd.net/

Besides a standalone compression tool, development headers and a library
with comprehensive API are available both for Cygwin native applications
and cross-compilation toolchains in the following sub-packages:

libzstd-devel-1.5.4-1
libzstd1-1.5.4-1
mingw64-i686-zstd-1.5.4-1
mingw64-x86_64-zstd-1.5.4-1

Notes
-

This version is compiled with support for GZip, LZ4 and Xz compression
and all libraries are built with MT capability. Support for legacy
formats from ZStandard versions before 1.0 has been removed.

Update: upx-4.0.2-1

2023-02-05 Thread Achim Gratz

UPX has been updated to version 4.0.2 for both x86 and x86_64
architectures. See the release news for changes:

https://upx.github.io/upx-news.txt

UPX is a free, portable, extendable, high-performance executable packer
for several executable formats.

UPX upstream bundles all dependencies as source and links them in
directly during the build starting with this release, so the Cygwin
package no longer depends on zlib0 and ucl.

Updated: man-db-2.11.2-1

2023-01-14 Thread Achim Gratz

The man-db package is updated to the latest upstream version 2.11.2.

Man-db is an implementation of the standard Unix documentation system
accessed using the man command. It uses a Berkeley DB database in place
of the traditional flat-text whatis databases.

Cygwin Notes

The man-db package includes a conditional perpetual postinstall script
that keeps the database updated each time setup is run if (and only if)
the database exists. This update now runs in the background by default,
so setup is no longer waiting for the update to complete. This can be
changed if needed, see below. The diagnostic output from the update is
stored at /var/log/mandb-index.log, so you can check if there were
problems on the last update. This release works around a Windows bug
that causes creation of a spurious directory %SystemDrive% in the Cygwin
installation root.

In order to create the database directly via setup, please install the
man-db-create-index package. The removal of this package will not
remove an existing database, this still needs to be done manually if
required.

If your installation procedure requires that setup waits for the index
update to complete, install the man-db-index-synchronously package
instead. The creation of a new database can take several minutes to
over an hour depending on how many manual pages are installed and how
fast your filesystem is. Removal of this package will leave an existing
database in place, but switches the system back to do background
updates.

If you install "everything" that means both the above mentioned helper
packages get installed and the first installation will take a long time
as setup will wait for the newly created index to be complete.

This relase is intended for general testing on Cygwin.

Maintainers, please test with packages and builds that use liblzma5 (the
library has new entry points, but stays ABI compatible with earlier 5.x
releases) and liblzma-devel. Due to the extra entry points in liblzma5,
applications may not be compatible with earlier versions, so please
ensure that you don't release packages linked against it while it is
still in test.

The first general (non-test) Cygwin release from this branch is planned
to be 5.4.1, depending on the results of these tests.

Updated: man-db-2.11.1-1

2022-11-19 Thread Achim Gratz

The man-db package is updated to the latest upstream version 2.11.1.

The removal of this package will not
remove an existing database, this still needs to be done manually if
required.

If your installation procedure requires that setup waits for the index
update to complete, install the man-db-index-synchronously package

over an hour depending on how many manual pages are installed and how
fast your filesystem is. Removal of this package will leave an existing
database in place, but switches the system back to do background
updates.

If you install "everything" that means both the above mentioned helper
packages get installed and the first installation will take a long time
as setup will wait for the newly created index to be complete.

Updated: libcerf-2.2-1

This is an update to the latest upstream version.

Libcerf is a self-contained numeric library that provides an
efficient and accurate implementation of complex error functions,
along with Dawson, Faddeeva, and Voigt functions.

This release fixes a bug in the faddeeva function where for large real
arguments a numerical underflow exception was propagated to the caller
instead of just returning zero as the result. This resulted in gnuplot
interpreting the result as NaN for instance.

2022-11-01 Thread Achim Gratz

The following packages have been uploaded to the Cygwin distribution.
This release updates to the latest upstream security patch release and
continues to use the Fedora patches from an earlier release (Fedora has
already switched to openssl 3.x).

* openssl-1.1.1s-1
* openssl-perl-1.1.1s-1
* libssl1.1-1.1.1s-1
* libssl-devel-1.1.1s-1

* mingw64-i686-openssl-1.1.1s-0.2
* mingw64-x86_64-openssl-1.1.1s-0.2

The OpenSSL toolkit provides support for secure communications between
machines. OpenSSL includes a certificate management tool and shared
libraries which provide various cryptographic algorithms and protocols.

Cygwin Notes

OpenSSL version 1.1.1r was revoked by upstream almost immediately after
getting announced and was never released for Cygwin.

"3." from their releases (the internal version number still uses the old
versioning scheme, though).

Re-Release: ca-certificates-2022.2.54-3

2022-09-06 Thread Achim Gratz

The following packages have been uploaded to the Cygwin distribution:

 ca-certificates-2022.2.54-3
 ca-certificates-letsencrypt-2022.2.54-3

Re-Release: ca-certificates-2022.2.54-2

The following packages have been uploaded to the Cygwin distribution:

 ca-certificates-2022.2.54-2
 ca-certificates-letsencrypt-2022.2.54-2

This re-release fixes an upstream bug with a script that uses bash
features but didn't actually specify that it should run in bash.

Mozilla's CA root certificates for use with OpenSSL, NSS, GnuTLS, and

This is an update to the latest upstream release.

Updated: {,mingw64-{i686,x86_64}-}binutils-2.39-1

2022-08-21 Thread Achim Gratz

The binutils packages for Cygwin and MingW64 cross-compilation
toolchains have been updated to the upstream feature release 2.39, with
additional patches applied to remove upstream changes that are
incompatible with Cygwin.

 binutils-2.39-1
 mingw64-i686-binutils-2.39-1
 mingw64-x86_64-binutils-2.39-1
