quick cygwin X question

2013-09-11 Thread J.McNamara

Hi

If I install xorg-server and xinit and an X window appears when I do
startxwin that I can use to launch to a terminal, should that be all I
need to install besides all of the xfce/lxde packages?

For instance, I do $startxwin and the X window pops up. I then type in
startlxde into the term and the autostart program appears in the same
terminal. I had lynx browser selected as an autostart program for lxde.
I don't know why lynx appears in the same window as the terminal.

I can't get to a desktop in either xfce and lxde.

I guess my question is just in general. I thought all I had to do is get
x window working and then the lxde and xfce programs would take care of
the rest. Maybe I am missing a requirement?

thanks

Thanks for reporting this problem and the testcase.

I've added a patch improves the window hint conversion in multiwindow mode so
that the hint which gtk_window_maximize() sets is now recognized as maximizing
the window.

I've uploaded a snapshot at [1]. Perhaps you could try that and see if it
improves things for you?

(This is a x86 binary. if you need an x64 binary, please let me know and I'll
generate one)

Thanks, that appears to fix the testcase, but terminator still has the same
problems, I'll try to find out what is happening there.

'terminator -m' works correctly for me with that snapshot.

It does for me too, but if I start terminator with no command line
arguments (directly after I start x server), then maximize the window
using the windows button, or by double clicking the title bar, I get a
window that's not fully maximized.

 I produced a gdb backtrace by cancelling the restart quickly after the

I've added a patch which should fix this crash and uploaded a snapshot at [1].

 On a different note, when running gdb, I noticed that XWin.exe twice
 receives a SIGSYS when starting. That does not affect normal
 operations.

This is expected when cygserver (which provides SySV shared memory) is not
running, as the X server tests to see if shared memory is available before
using it, by checking if shmget() causes a SIGSYS...

[ANNOUNCEMENT] Updated: qt3, qt4, pyqt4, qscintilla2

2013-09-11 Thread Yaakov (Cygwin/X)
The following packages (and their subpackages) have been updated for
both arches:

* font-cantarell-otf-0.0.14-1
* phonon-backend-gstreamer-4.6.3-1
* python-pyqt4-4.10.2-1
* python-sip-4.14.7-1

* python3-sip-4.14.7-1
* qscintilla2-2.7.2-1
* qt3-3.3.8b-13
* qt4-4.8.5-1

These releases include updates to the Qt stack, along with the following
changes:

* Qt link libraries are now installed directly into /usr/lib (instead of
/usr/lib/qt[N]/lib), as there is no longer a parallelability concern
with the libraries.

* QtWebKit is fully functional on x86_64.

* The qt4-qtdemo subpackage has been removed, now that 4.x is no longer
the latest major version of Qt.
