Re: _X11TransOpen: unable to find transport for tcp
Hi, Hi, I am unable to start xterms, rxvts, emacs in my cygwin/X install. I receive the message _X11TransOpen: unable to find transport for tcp xterm Xt error: Can't open display: localhost:0 Don't use localhost. Try export DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0.0 instead. this does not work either. The problem does not appear to lie with the proper setting of the DISPLAY variable; I can launch things like xeyes. Rather it's with the X11TransOpen error that occurs when I try to run xterm or rxvt. Juergen __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Re: _X11TransOpen: unable to find transport for tcp
Hi, I run cygwin X with the supplied startxwin.bat. That is the Xwin command is: run XWin -multiwindow -clipboard -silent-dup-error But I found that it doesn't really matter, how I launch XWin. In single window mode the problem also occurs. I ran cygcheck xterm.exe and also cygcheck rxvt.exe. Neither reports any errors. All references are to DLLs, for rxvt the output looks like so: # cygcheck rxvt.exe Found: C:\cygwin\bin\rxvt.exe C:\cygwin\bin\rxvt.exe C:\cygwin\bin\cygwin1.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\ADVAPI32.DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntdll.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\KERNEL32.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\RPCRT4.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\USER32.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\GDI32.dll and just for reference the error I receive is: ~# rxvt _X11TransOpen: Unable to find transport for tcp rxvt: can't open display 127.0.0.1:0.0 Thanks for your help so far. Check which library xterm needs cygcheck xterm.exe and if some cygport library in /usr/bin mask the standard library in /usr/X11/bin if so, one solution and one workaround: - find the missing cygport additional program and install it - rename the library in /usr/bin http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=31242928forum_id=43555 Regards Marco __ Do You Yahoo!? _X11TransOpen: unable to find transport for tcp
Hi, I am unable to start xterms, rxvts, emacs in my cygwin/X install. I receive the message _X11TransOpen: unable to find transport for tcp xterm Xt error: Can't open display: localhost:0 when I start a cygwin bash shell, the X multiwindow system, export the DISPLAY to localhost and then start xterm. (xeyes will launch fine). I turned off the windows firewall without any luck. This problem also exists when I run cygwinX in single window mode. I'm running windows XP with all the latest updates installed and also the latest cygwin updates (although my cygwin system has been installed for a few years without a complete reinstall) Any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks Juergen __ Do You Yahoo!? Change Request
I have 2 suggestions, that could make Cygwin/X the ultimate tool for me, and probably many other people around the world. We are talking about XDMCP connection modes here. 1) As an example, WinaXe (former XwinPro) has 3 XDMCP modes: direct, indirect and broadcast. The latter has not much to do with what is usually considered broadcast in this respect, but is nonetheless rather interesting for many puposed. In short, the user sets up a list of hosts for his own purpose, those hosts are polled for XDMCP availability by the program, and the operable hosts are listed in a selection menu. If the mentioned function could be implemented in Xwin.exe, I think it would be great, but to avoid any further confusion it should not be named broadcast. Specific host selection or something like that might be a better description. Why do I need this ? Because I have to monitor and administer a variety of Linux servers in different locations and on different subnets. This alone rules out the usual XDMCP broadcasting. In my case, indirect XDMCP is also problematic for a couple of reasons: If the indirecting server is down, you can not get the hostlist, and if the server at the same time is a VPN/Ipsec gateway point for the other subnets, these are not seen from the servers point of view, even though they are visible from other stations in the same subnet. 2) Would it be possible to make some automatic assignment of display number from 0 and upwards ? This could be a big help for users who frequently need more entities of Xwin open towards different servers at the same time ? That said, thanks a million to the people, who created and maintain this splendid software tool. It is certifiably the most convincing X-server for Windows, I have seen untill now. If someone wants to beat me up for these request, feel free to do so to my direct email, as I am presently off the list. Regards Joern W. Andersen, [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: startx timing out
I don't have a .Xauthority file in my home dir. I had a .xinitrc in my home dir, and renamed it on the odd chance that it was causing the problem, it wasn't. Thanks From: Thomas Chadwick [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: startx timing out Date: Fri, 12 Jul 2002 16:44:12 -0400 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] A few suggestions: 1) If you have a file in your home directory called .Xauthority, delete it (or at least rename it if you want to use it again later). 2) If you don't have a file in your home directory called .xinitrc, create one containing something like the following (the following does the same stuff as the stock startxwin.sh and startxwin.bat): xsetroot -solid aquamarine4 xterm -sl 1000 -sb -rightbar -ms red -fg yellow -bg black \ -e /usr/bin/bash twm From: J. W. Ballantine [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: startx timing out Date: Fri, 12 Jul 2002 16:17:26 -0400 I've installed cygwin-xfree and I seem to have something mis-configured. If I run from startxwin.sh, everything runs fine, but if I try to use startx, the x window, white, opens up, changes to a cross-hatch pattern and eventually closes down. In the sh window I get the message: waiting for X server to begin accepting connections .. .. until it finally times out. For the record the same thing happens if I try and run just xinit my /tmp/XWin.log is: DELETED for Brevity... I couldn't find anything about this in the mail-list archive. Does someone see anything I don't. Thanks Jim Ballantine
