Dear Czernowitz List friends, Over the last ten days I have been in frequent contact with Rav Mendel Glisnshtayn, the leader of the Chabad synagogue and community in Chernivtsi. Although there is no active fighting going on the situation in town is very tense. There are many refugees who have arrived with practically nothing from eastern Ukraine and who are asking for assistance from the local Jewish community.
I have also corresponded with Zoya Danilovitch, who is the tour guide who over many years has guided many of us when we have visited Czernowitz. Zoya is writing ;" Everything that is going on is a nightmare.What will happen to us? I hope we will survive and our beautiful city will not be destroyed".
