Dear Ms. Gebuhrer, 

Thanks for sharing this remarkable document of a transition, testifying to an 
“Austrian Reifeprüfung” (in English we could call it colloquially a “Habsburg 
Matura”) after the Empire’s collapse.

It appears this private high school (or middle and high school; in German: 
Privat-Gymnasium) started in 1913/14, did not receive its public status 
(Öffentlichkeitsrecht) until May 1914, and featured German and Polish as 
languages of instruction. Address (as shown for 1917): Landhausgasse 3.

Indeed, the most common language for this mailing list is English but, I
suppose, there is a certain threshold of tolerance regarding the children
from Czernowitz :)
My grand father was born in Czernowitz in 1918 and we manage to found some
information about what happened to the family.

It really depends on a ton of factor, but you MIGHT find a few online
databases that MIGHT return a hit (or not...) when searching the names of
your relatives :
