Lately I ran into the same error. The GUI was also looking ugly.
This was caused by removing the debian package "gtk2-engines" accidently. I guess it's x11-themes/gtk-engines in Gentoo portage?

New install of xubuntu 13.10 shows the following problem when trying to
export to email..
Unable to detect the URI-scheme of
"mailto:?subject=images%20exported%20from%20darktable&body=20131107%5F0019.jpg%201/125%20f/5.0%2070mm%20iso%20640&attach=/home
I have just installed xubuntu 13.10 and am having problems getting the
git version to install correctly.
Would somebody kindly look at the attached terminal output and guide me
as to which pieces I am missing and how to solve the situation.

Hi David,
You are missing a library. You can alwys find out which package it is,
by using this method:
$ apt-file find magick/api.h
libgraphicsmagick1-dev: /usr/include/GraphicsMagick/magick/api.h
libmagickcore-dev: /usr/include/ImageMagick/magick/api.h

really, magick is mandatory now? i don't have it installed.
i think you need to delete your build/ directory and start fresh. cmake
might have cached old library locations and be trying to look for them
where there is nothing any more without a second thought.

Hi,
For me, on the ligthroom mode, the size of the style module is too
small (or tiny), we can show only 3 stored style.
So we have rapidly scroll a lot to found a style.
What do you think about increase the size of this plug-in ?

Confirmed too.
But also a another remark about the new colllect image & label color :
If 'color labels' is selected but (not yet) choose a color,
all images with a color labels should be show (like putting "%"
instend)
actually by default it's show the red color lab

It seems something is broken with your "xdg-email" installation. Could you
please try to run from the command line:
xdg-email --
It would appear that the dependency lists on the dt install page need
some revision.
