Now its a bit late but think about moving to btrfs filesystem or zfs which is
btrfs big brother.
Snapshots do not replace backup but are extremly cheap.
Create a script that takes a snapshot before it starts DT or simply create a
snapshot every 5 mins and delete after 1 hour or a day.

If this is a doable solution.
Since the photos and the xmp files are on a NAS ,the files
in .config/darktable/ are the only ones that go out of sync.
Unison could be used to sync those on the 2 computers
I have used it for a number of years and it is quite good at
synchronizing 2 or more computer
Hi
I have a very similar to demand. I'm already in the second solution.
My basic setup is as follows:
- I import all my photos on my PC;
- The root folder of photos on PC is synchronized with my NAS (Synology)
with BTSync;
- On my notebook, I created a keyboard shortcut to a script t

We are talking about 1900 spread
hi,
i would probably ctrl-a and remove all files from db (be sure not to
delete them ;) ), then delete the _01. xmp files, then re-import.
how many images are we talking about? hope it's limited to <1k ..

Is there a quick way of deleting all these virtual copies/duplicates.

Hallo,
most the time in lighttable-mode I can scroll thru the pics whith the
mouse-wheel.
Sometimes this function is lost and the mouse-wheel controls the slider
in the bottom which changes the number of pics per row.
How can I set this back to scrolling?
It's very slowly to scroll with arrow-ke

DB needs to be copied as well otherwise you wouldn't see a change after
being back.
Yes and no. With xmp-based workflow I referred to either scanning the
The risk is quite low as in difference to a local ext4 filesystem my NAS
share is ZFS based and recovering a snapshot or creating one is a matter of
seconds.
In addition no change is risking the raws... all differnces are doubled in
xmp's and the DB is a simple SQLite file...

To me this is... A recipe for disaster!
Sorry I had to say that, working hard around a tool like dt to make it
work in a context where it is not meant will for sure break things at
some point. And yes I have already seen that from Lr and dt users,
that's not pure fiction.
You'll be warned :)

Hi,
this is what I mentioned... currently the folder owner is root to avoid the
creation of an empty DB...
I fear that the information about local copies existing is stored in DB in
NAS... unmounting that DB and using the local DB will most likely lead to
forgotten files in a cache folder... and o
Hi !
What about giving rw rights for users on /mnt/fotos and let Darktable
create a database ? Depending on if /mnt/foto is mounted or not, you work
locally or not this way. About local copies, I am not sure, if you create
them connected to the network, unmount /mnt/foto, restart Darktable, load
