I think that's because _01 modules are considered developer releases
and are not installable automatically by CPAN.
Here is a way to install from CPAN:
# perl -MCPAN -e shell
cpan ls dmaki
...
12370 2003-12-24 DMAKI/DateTime-Util-Astro-0.01_03.tar.gz
12769 2003-12-28

modules by hand.
