Hello everybody,

We are excited to have so many active students again this year!

I guess everyone has read our instructions, http://wiki.dbpedia.org/gsoc2018,
and the GSoC timeline, https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/timeline

In any case, please read it again. :-) Make sure you understand everything and
don't be afraid to ask for clarifications.

The application period is now officially open, so students should visit the
program site, g.co/gsoc, to register and start submitting their proposals for
the summer projects to us.

Please elaborate your proposal in a Google Doc. When you're done, share it with
the respective mentor,
https://github.com/dbpedia/GSoC/blob/master/2018/Mentors.md
The deadline for proposals is March 27, but it will make it easier for you (and
your mentors) to start preparing and sharing your application sooner rather
than later.

You should also use the Github site, https://github.com/dbpedia/GSoC, to ask
questions to make sure you understood everything. The warm up tasks are meant
to get you hand-on with the project and see if it something you actually like.
Both questions and the warm up tasks are only meant to help write a perfect
application that impresses us. This is your final goal and this is what we will
evaluate in the end so please do not forget that!

Also, keep in mind that all mentors have a full-time job and do the mentoring
on their free time. The sooner you send them a draft of your application, the
more time you give them to provide you feedback for improvements and the more
time you have to incorporate their feedback back in your proposal.

Good luck to everyone, we are looking forward to read your awesome applications.

Magnus, on behalf of the DBpedia GSoC Admin team
