It does not matter whether this is his real name or not, he has always
been called John Doe here and there, and that is what does matter.

John Doe or whatever your real name is, and if you are not the moderator
for this list, I wish you'd remove yourself from this list.
This is a Debian topic, this is about Debian Accessibility and there has
been a very productive discussion about this going on and off this list for
about a week.
Are you the list moderator?

In Debian 11 I have a solution, not good, but better than nothing. When
in the Mate Desktop or terminal I use Orca. If I want to use the console
I go to Alt + F2, type in "Sudo Killall Orca", which shuts down Orca.
Within 10 seconds I have espeak speaking in the console. If I want to go
back to
.

Well, Glen, I would think if you switch to an actual console, you would want
Voxin. It would probably just switch focus-and-switch from an ORCA to Speakup.
But yes I have seen this when I was trying out Slint.

So after testing a bit more, it seems the issue is that I can choose either
Orca or Speakup. If I start a Mate session, then Speakup no longer works until
the next reboot. If I start a Speakup session first
expected
behavior; but if there is a workaround, that info would be great.

Hi all,
Running Debian Bookworm and the Mate desktop environment. I just installed
Voxin. After the Voxin install I rebooted the system and Orca immediately
came up using Eloquence as the synthesizer. However I noticed that now when
I switch to a console terminal, I am not getting any speech at
