gnopernicus may be used without any X server on the local machine
(startx & co), since it may be launched remotely, with a deported
displaying. That's why there is no dependancy on it.
For a working X server you should try apt-get install x-window-system

You could try running
aptitude install gnome
but watch out as this may set up a graphical login by default (at
least it did when I tried it a year ago, and I had to delete it
without removing any of the major gnome packages).
