Hi,
The problem with the X server is due to a bug in the xserver-xorg-core
package in unstable (2:1.6.4-1). It has been reported several times (see
e.g. #548716).
Downgrading to 2:1.6.3.901-1 from testing solves the problem
(temporarily).
Best,
Cédric

You'll probably have to remove also the Composite extension entry:
that is what I had to do, since fglrx seems to disable Direct
Rendering if an experimental option is enabled in xorg.conf.

It might be a problem with the bcm43xx driver. Indeed, I experienced
several lockups with debian ppc on my ibook. The last message was
exactly the same as yours, where bcm43xx restarts the controller.

I have exactly the same kind of errors. It is related to the problem
exposed in the
thread nvidia error -xorg doesn't start.
Comment in /etc/X11/Xsession.options the line mentioning ssh-agent.

I managed to make bootsplash run from the i386 packages available on
http://www.bootsplash.de/files/debian/. I am not sure that my
installation is very clean, but it works.
* I patched and recompiled my kernel
* I first downloaded the theme I wanted:
bootsplash-theme-debblue_0.5-5_all.deb

I had this problem. To correct it, I first uninstalled libdjvulibre1,
and then installed libdjvulibre 15.
I hope it will work for you too.
