Anyway, I decided to switch to boa (also because apache is a bit heavy for my purpose). In dselect I indicated all installed apache2 packages should be purged and boa installed. During installation I received an error during postinst of boa. After some research, I discovered that the apache2 server processes were still running, even though apache2 had been uninstalled. I manually killed these processes (and after that the postinst of boa succeeded without problems).
