What steps are needed? Where do I start?
I have set up many Linux boxes before and have mounted drives, compiled
stuff (including new kernels), etc, so I am not new to Linux - just new to
creating boot floppies and the process

Hi Scott
Well I'm new to this too, but I've done this in two ways.
Method 1 - editing existing:
Download an existing boot floppies (eg bf2.4) set, dd to floppy and mount
rescue.bin
i.e. mount -t auto -o loop rescue.bin /mnt
create a custom kernel flavour to meet your needs
Then replace

When I run mklibs in an sv_SE locale I get

but when I run it in the C locale it works fine. The reason for this is
that mklibs parses the output of readelf, and of course fails if that

i've translated .po files in debian-installer cvs to italian, unified diff is
available for download on http://debian.esaurito.net/d-i.it.po.diff.gz
Waiting for suggestions/corrections (and complains, of course!)
