know i have tried d-i RC1 on an other machine, following the same
procedure as before (trying to create a logical volume on a raid1 device).
This time the disks were detected (two IDE disks). Creating the raid1
device with the partitioner worked great. But i had to do pvcreate and

modules are gone for kernel 2.6.x.

I tried the new debian installer out for the first time using a SID build
from a couple days ago.
I have a DSL connection. Much to my amazement there is no option for PPPOE
(pretty much every DSL ISP out there and some cablecos use it). Fumbling
about, I deduced that to make a FTP/HTTP

1) use 20040901 netboot w/ append='debconf/priority=medium'
2) remove any Debian entries from the efi boot menu
3) start install using 2.6 flavor
4) choose sid as the distribution
5) after downloading installer components
w/ a 2.4.27 based d-i, a boot manager entry is properly created.
efibootmgr uses /proc/efivars in 2.4 but uses /sys in 2.6, so this
could be the relevant difference.
