That being an udeb I know many things don't apply to it, but I'm not
sure if maybe I hsould place those d-i hooks elsewhere.

our building script to instruct pbuilder to not block the network when
it's building this special package. I think that's acceptable, given
that d-i is not a random package... :)

e the case now for dpkg-buildpackage in sid?
it's not, dpkg hasn't merged that patch (tbh I'm not even sure we
forwarded that). Though debhelper exports SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH when using
the dh sequencer.
