I installed Debian using d-i from the live image. The file
/etc/mailname on the installed system says:

When emacs is invoked it says No /etc/mailname. Reverting to default...
and waits for 3 seconds. Of course this is very undesirable.
It is easy to solve this.
Solution 1:
# echo Debian is broken /etc/mailname
