I have managed to get the netra back to life, and have installed lenny
on it successfully.
I've done a dist-upgrade to squeeze, which does now work, but in the
first boot it complained it couldn't fsck a couple of partitions
because they were in use and dropped me to a maintenance prompt.
Unfortunately I can't test this further as the netra seems to have died :(

I did suspect the error I'd been getting with the later daily builds
was size related.
I have managed to get the daily build from 20120101 to boot, it seems
to be missing
