I have skills in C/C++ and have been playing around with the debian boot
system/installer lately (a lot with the initrd-tools).
Perhaps I can help improve the installer. Any pointers on where to start?

check out from CVS, read the docs, build it all and try to install.

There don't seem to be any kernel udebs available for MIPS, and I'd like
to try working on them. I swear I've seen documentation that referred
to udebs somewhere, but I can't find it. Where can I read about how to
create a udeb?

I have a bootable Debian 2.2 CD set that boots fine and
begins loading linux then hangs on Uncompressing Linux.
The system is a Compaq Deskpro 6000 with a 200MHZ Pentium
CPU and 256 MB or RAM. It has a Adaptec 2940 SCSI Contoller with a SCSI HD and
SCSI CDROM. Video is Matrox
