It looks like this change has dropped out of the radar for the
being-released-right-now 6.0.3. Too bad. :(
Anyway, it would still be good to see #597223 fixed in the next point
release of
I tried it again today.
Removed fglrx-driver and related packages. Booted fine untill I
actually purged them, then everything went back to the
garbage screen problem with the 3.0 kernel. Used 2.6.32-5 kernel to
boot and blacklist radeon, and update initramfs.
After this 3.0 kernel is booting

Yes. The if_msk update is specially important for the installer.
If the aim is to do that for 6.0.3 then those uploads need to happen
within the next day, or they'll miss the cut-off.

I have looked into the problem further. After installing
firmware-linux-nonfree now radeon works on 3.0 kernel.
