how to connect to the net?

Hi folks, I just successfully installed Sarge netinst on my spare partition. But after a reboot there was a problem: The network wasn't up. And base-config did not allow me to configure anything else but a PPP connection. I'm not sure whether this is a problem of base-config, or of d-i. Regards
