All net code (in special net_pack_* and net_unpack_* functions) doesn't
take into account endianness issues, and it's unusable on big endian
arches (at least)

There's another problem related to that (i guess) which is curious. In
Power PC a client fails to connect to a server in localhost (both big
endian). The server reports "Invalid client protocol '0': '2' is
required"

The code mentioned in this bug appears to have been rewritten/replaced. The
routines mentioned are not found anywhere in the code.
