Not realising that it's not logical, I try to add a point onto a
rectangle. Except that instead of telling me that I can't do this, it
just hangs.

Since I'm still not able to reproduce the issue nor did I get an
answer to the above question, I assume, that this is already fixed in
newer versions of xfig.

If you still observe this issue, feel free to reopen the bug report.
