Package: emacs24
Version: 24.4+1-5
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

A particular newsgroup breaks gnus in an irrecoverable way. Gnus
cannot open a group with content from "gwene.com.fatwallet.hotdeals"
from the news.gmane.org server (filed in bug# 797409).

Two other gnus functions fail when trying to recover:

  * gnus-agent-regenerate-group
  * gnus-agent-expire-group

Those two commands fail with:

  Invalid read syntax: ". in wrong context"

This is very severe, because regenerating the group is the only
function to recover from other bugs, and this function itself is
broken. It's not even possible to delete the messages, because the
group cannot be entered. It's a complete stalemate. The bugs are so
entrenched that there is no way to recover from this.
