I've updated the patch for the current version of kbd-chooser (1.20).
The new patch is available from my private branch in SVN:

I tried the patch out on testing (etch?) and it seems to work like a
charm. The only thing I noticed was that apt-get build-dep din't install
libaspell-dev which I had to install to sattisfy dpkg-buildpackage.
