The typo has already been fixed upstream - a new release is pending a
few changes within emdebian-tools and dpkg-cross.
Regarding the use of fakeroot, there is a misplaced comment but
fakeroot is used elsewhere in the script. This may be removed in future
versions by migrating the status file(s)

xscreensaver-gl is recommended by gnome-screensaver for using the GL
hacks, but then it pulls xscreensaver which looks like unnecessary.
Could you remove that dependency ?
