In /usr/lib/ssl/openssl.cnf I had subjectAltName = ${ENV::ALTNAME} because I need to generate certificates with subjectAltName but before I started named I didn't set the environment variable. I commented out the subjectAltName = ${ENV::ALTNAME} lines in openssl config so bind9 works ok. --
