In the default dhclient configuration and the one provided by wicd,
there is "request [...] host-name [...]". I'm not sure what it's
supposed to do, but changing the hostname is certainly a bug. The
dhcp-options(5) man page says:

The gdm3's init script has a should-start directive on network-manager.
