I agree with the bug reporter and I do not understand your reasoning
for the hardcoded dependency.
If you insist that it is correct the severity of the bug should be
decreased and may be tagged wontfix - but please provide a better
explanation.

it is worth migrating biomaj from SVN to Git and fix at least #803116
which seems to come cheap. Popcon-wise biomaj has 5 users versus one
for python3-biomaj3 - but this might come from users of stable.
