Please consider using the dgit-maint-gbp workflow instead of the
dgit-maint-merge workflow.
The recent switch from 3.0 (quilt) eliminates useful context and
metadata from the Debian package itself. That metadata is now only
available in the git repo.

who claims this issue is fixed for ppc64 in GCC version 8 that
does not exist anywhere. Not even in the git repo.
