the problem reported originally is still the case in sqeeze and the
workaround by Petr doesn't work for me, I'm not sure why.
running setupcon in command line after boot fixes the fonts.
this is especially annoyoing since I run localized debian with a language
that requires a non-standard font

Alt-F opens File menu in most gui applications on ubuntu, so it is
reasonable for drscheme to do the same to integrate better with the rest
of the desktop. The fact that emacs doesn't is emacs' bug.
In fact drscheme fakes emacs keybindings, because
not that depend on the drscheme/mzscheme libraries, since
those change names with every version).
