I've tried attaching a png file with the latest stable thunderbird 7.0.1
and the problem could not be reproduced in it. Firefox could also be
unable to reproduce this issue. I think this problem should have been
eliminated now.

I'm wondering that why we do not use the binary built by the ds9
developing team? It's a little bigger but still acceptable.
See here, there is a binary for linux:
