I'm not sure whether I am an isolated case or not, but I purged and re-
installed zoneminder and Apache2 (all of the packages!) twice, and I keep
running into the same issue:

Using ati driver, the system totally freezes a few seconds after xorg starting.
Using vesa driver solves the problem, downgrading to testing packages solves
the problem.
