OK. (If I remember correctly) I was running calamaris on a debian box on logs created (and manipulated) on a RedHat machine:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 3 (Taroon Update 1)

Perhaps redirectig to STDOUT on the RedHat machine changed the representation of UTF-8 URLS (that were probably entered by accident)

LANG=en_US.UTF-8

Anyway, it seems that this was my fault for not reading the FAQ. My apologies.

Quoted from the README file (for those with the same problem):

* RedHat 8.0 has set the LANG-Variable to en_US.UTF-8, which caused Calamaris to crash with 'Split loop at (eval 1) line 21, <> line 1', maybe due to a perl-bug. (Investigation needed). You can workaround this problem by unsetting LANG. Please see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=77437 .
