I had the same problem but if I changed the folder where extracted files will be stored it then worked. The default value is your home folder, changing this to a folder called tunes and it worked. It even worked if I changed this folder back to my home dir. So this bugs seems to be with the first

I have followed the directions in /usr/share/doc/nagios-mysql
for Debian.readme and mysql.readme. Everything seems to be fine. The
database is being written. Root is who I'm using to connect to the DB
with and he's got all the permissions he needs. I've tried every fix
that I can find on google.
