I tried the workaround Mark Janssen's suggested and installed python2.6:
# apt-get update
# apt-get install python2.6
And everything installed fine. Apt-get also upgraded python-central to
0.6.16, with the original bug report python-central was

I tried to
# apt-get install python-qt4
but python2.6-minimal fails to install:
