the problem occurs when the ldap password is to contain special
characters (such as spaces, but other characters should fail, too).
It boils down to a simple missing quoting of the input paramter to the
slappasswd command in debian/slapd.scripts-common.

Regarding libpam_abl's shortcommings, I'm surprised that an autopurge
isn't implemented, and I'm equally surprised that it doesn't track
failed attempts on known users. I had ran some tests, albeit not
extensive, on this and I believe
