I think I see the very same issue that affects also firefox 58.0.1-1.
To make matters more complex, Firefox starts with GNOME/wayland on an
laptop with an integrated Intel graphics chip just fine, but fails to
show a window on an desktop with AMD graphics card (Oland, Radeon R7
