Thank you, Ole; I much appreciate you getting to the bottom of the
issue.

Sorry, I missed that! I saw at the bottom of the log:

Hi Andreas and Ole,
The problem here stems from an old version of Cython. My recommended approach
would be to build from the git tag instead of the source tarball (i.e., the
version without pre-generated Cython files). I don't think the Cython-related
patches that were applied since would

Hi Ole
As upstream maintainer, I admit to being a bit confused: we agreed to
move maintenance to the Debian Science Team, but then watched as skimage
was dropped from testing. If the team does not take responsibility for
keeping the package up to date, who is ultimately responsible?
Thank you
OK by me, too.

I would have absolutely no problem moving skimage to team maintenance.
If Yarik agrees, I'd appreciate some pointers on how to move forward
with that. What I would like is to remain in the loop w.r.t. packaging
changes. python-dask should be packaged now, I think Diane Trout of one

Yes, absolutely no problem on both counts. I'm happy to be a
backup/support, so let me know if there is anything you need me to do.
Thank you for all this information.
I can make the suggested changes, but this isn't currently high on my
priority list. I package so infrequently that the overhead of tracking
the latest requirements becomes quite high. Would you be willing to
take over the packaging here?
I packaged toolz and pushed it to mentors, but no one picked it up.
My attempt is here: https://github.com/stefanv/toolz/tree/debian
I would be happy if you could take this further. Are you also planning
on packaging Dask and Distributed?
