I faced a similar issue (if not the same), after a recent update and
switching from systemd to sysvinit.

I could reproduce this on wheezy many times. Today, for example, the
symbol "}" was changed to "|".
Running setxkbmap manually on every login fixes the issue as reported.

For a long time this problem has occured to me and, besides the backtrace, the
only thing that I've noticed is that Yves and me both use Xfce, though it should

The current behaviour is much more acceptable because it doesn't steal
