I installed an i386 Wheezy (legacy BIOS boot) and the behaviour no
longer reproduces (using legacy BIOS booting and amd64 still triggered
it for me).
So for my personal use it's nice with a reliable workaround. Still,
hopefully this could be worked out somehow since most people will

I also tried disabling KMS through radeon-kms.conf and in this case the
display is corrupted (although in a different way, mostly flickering white
lines on a black screen) when X is started at boot.
