With the same version of openoffice on powerpc instead of x86 the effect
is much better, but still visible.

I'm retrying to send this report with a different email adress since I didn't

yesterday - sorry, if the other report does show up again. In the mean time I
have done some more
tests and found out that only
I got the same problem - flashing horizontal lines when using keyboard
and only with gnome. Also I have a low-end graphics chip (sis 740 using
exclusively system ram) which is known to produce the same problem when
using it in double headed mode and exceeding the available memory
bandwidth
Just to make things clearer:
grep -nE -H pbbuttonsd /var/log/* doesn't give any suspicious messages
only piles of INFO about which scripts have been started and such. Of
course when I installed a new kernel and forgot to load evdev I got a
WARNING about that but after echo evdev /etc/modules
