i forced an update of the packages (with no ill effect so far) and the
issue went away so i am guessing that package update did indeed

i have also this bug with my Thinkpad T500 running Debian Squeeze
if i enable KMS i get random horizontal flicker across parts of the
screen as described above
i tried the solution mentioned but no luck here
the move to not supporting KMS off is *really* rather annoying ... is
