Sure we need to allow for libperl5.XX to stay future-proof. I was just
thinking of hardcoding libperl5.38t64 as the (temporary) other option
rather than using a generic libperl5.XXt64 name.
But no worries :)

dig deeply into what the test is actually doing, but I think it'd
be fine to just hardcode libperl5.38t64 FWIW.
We can get rid of the suffix with 5.40, and I doubt any other distro
will go through this than Ubuntu who we're syncing with anyway (for
better or worse).
But whatever works is good of course.

Looks like bam_view1() and bam_sort_core() don't have prototypes in
any header file in libbam-dev. Copying them from the actual .c files
in samtools-legacy seems to work.
Patch attached, this builds and passes the test suite for me.

I'm afraid it really does happen with 4.1:
niko@niko-desktop:~$ cat /var/log/dpkg.log | grep apt-listchanges | tail -3
2023-10-10 11:28:51 status unpacked apt-listchanges:all 4.1
2023-10-10 11:28:51 status half-configured apt-listchanges:all 4.1
2023-10-10 11:28:52 status installed apt
I see similar issues with apt-listchanges 4.1 while updating several
other packages:
For the curl update from 8.3.0-2 to 8.3.0-3 apt-listchanges shows all
changes starting from curl 7.65.1-1.
For the debianutils update from 5.13 to 5.14 apt-listchanges shows all
changes starting from

I expect trixie will eventually release with Perl 5.40, but we'll see
how the timing works out.

For stable I don't think anything needs to be done on the perl side.
Both perl and libfile-fcntllock-perl were build with the old constants
