Shotwell provides an option to build with libunity. The naming of the library is a bit misleading but it's not specific to the Unity desktop, it also adds integration to the GNOME dash to dock for example (displaying an indicator on the launcher icon during import). The library is used in Debian already for other components like evolution, it would be nice to enable it in shotwell as well. The library is small and doesn't have extra depends.
